Today, the Vatican announced the death of Pope Francis. Our correspondent Cecilia Blomberg reflects on his significance for the world's Catholics.

Pope Francis was a beloved leader known for his reforms and efforts to decentralize power from Rome to local parishes. He advocated for the inclusion of cardinals from the global south to ensure the Church's work continued in the same spirit.

Advocating for Peace

Francis emphasized humility, mercy, and inclusivity. He washed the feet of prisoners, including women and Muslims, on his first Holy Thursday as pope, reflecting his commitment to inclusivity and compassion. However, these gestures often upset conservative factions within the Church.
